Video marketing, if done properly, should create a personal connection with your viewers. Crafting a personal connection with your audience should be at the forefront of your mind when you’re planning your next video marketing campaign. The biggest factor, next to the time it takes to properly plan and execute a great video campaign, is the time you will have to grasp the attention and focus of your audience. Here is how to make a powerful impact in less than 30 seconds.
Have Relevant Content
Relevant content is the first step in capturing the attention of your audience in the shortest amount of time possible. Your viewers need to be able to identify with your message, think about all of the really strange videos you’ve seen on platforms like TikTok – they probably make zero sense to people older than 30, but to teenagers they are everything. Content is king when it comes to videos, so plan out your message properly and carefully.
Get To the Point, Quickly
Your audience will only pay attention for around 5 seconds when they first start watching your video; you need to make that time count – get to the point and get there quickly. Your viewer needs to be engaged by your video and your message, if they aren’t then there is zero chance they will stick around to watch your video in its entirety. Treat your video like a news story, the first few seconds need to highlight what the rest of the video will be about so it is so important that you are clear and concise from the start.
Create Compelling Titles
There is nothing worse than a vague video title – if someone is going to give you their attention they need to know why they should consider watching your video. Let your viewers know what to expect by creating a compelling title to entice them to hit play. Ask any video production company and they will tell you, great titles get you views and with enough views your video could go viral.
Emotional Content Speaks Volumes
As an avid video viewer I know one thing for certain, I watch videos for their emotional value. Connecting with the emotions of your viewers is the fastest way to grab their attention. Generating an emotional response, whatever form that comes in – whether it is shocking, inspiring, happy or sad, will all but guarantee you a video view for at least 30 seconds. Again, be sure to match the title of your video accurately to the content therein to avoid a jilted audience.
Be Unique
Creating content that is unique is a sure-fire way to make a quick impact on your audience. We are living in an age where we are all inundated with content on a daily basis and we have all made our own filters with regards to what we watch and how we divide our attention. In order to earn the attention and focus of your audience, you need to create content that is unique as well as valuable.
Be Easy To Understand
Our lives are so bogged down by all the little things as well as drained by the bigger things, allow your audience to take a break from the mental pressures of their worlds by creating a video that is easy to understand and easy to follow. Simplify your video by using words that are easy to understand and watch the views tick up daily.
Add Novelty
Novelty is a wonderful concept and can go a long way when it comes to getting video views. Keep your audience entertained from the beginning of your video and you’ll have a much higher chance of them watching the rest of it. There are a number of ways to achieve this, humour is my favourite. We all love to laugh; there is a good reason why the funniest videos have the highest number of views and shares. Another way to introduce novelty in your videos is by creating the illusion of audience participation – ask questions and give a short pause for answers.
Add Statistics
For some reason, and there is one that I won’t get into in this particular article, people love seemingly arbitrary statistics. For example, did you know that 77% of all statistics are made up on the spot? In all seriousness though, humans love to learn and they love to know things that they can then share with others only to completely forget later – it is coded into our very nature as a species. Adding fun facts and interesting points to your video will help you grasp the undivided attention of your audience.
